A List of Things from 2011 (Part 2)
Warriors: Anders Behring Breivik Now while I find what Breivik did to be fatalistic and horrible, this doesn’t mean that his acts didn’t have justification.  His assault was not the work of a crazy person or just another spree killer, it was strategic, politically motivated terrorism and his targets were perfectly legitimate.  More than that, it was the only response left to him by...

A List of Things from 2011 (Part 1)
Film: Nicolas Winding Refn Like most Americans, I was introduced to his work through the stylistically excellent, though critically overrated Drive.  While ostensibly dedicated to Alejandro Jodorowsky, I personally saw nods to David Lynch from the Angelo Badalamenti score and shots that would have been at home in Lost Highway.  And of course, Ryan Gosling was great for his sharp combination...

microaggressions: When discussing Nietzsche in class, my professor asks if we think his “ubermensch” or superman could be female. One student says that girls can’t because they aren’t strong enough physically. Other students agree, adding that the female personality type just doesn’t fit the bill. All of them are girls. I am so shocked and appalled that these capable young women can feel so...

My favorite part of Microaggressions is always the last sentence where the author feels inclined to share their hurt feelings.  Clearly these people are proponents of the notion that your rights should end where their feelings begin.

This Blog is about Men Now
This blog is about men now.  Men faces, men problems, men discussions. Homosexual men, heteronormative men, men who are open.  Stocky proles, frail wannabe aristos, sharp eyed underclass warriors.  The physiology of Rick Perry.  Proper horse hair brushes. The best milk.  That Smithsonian book on Wars of National Liberation. #WORK. Hockey. Matti Nykänen.  Let’s have a discussion....

Did you guys hear about that new reality tv show?
It’s called Last Night’s Mason Jar and it features a team of lab technicians who test the contents at the bottom of some dude’s mason jar.  It’s a different guy every episode.  The results are usually orange juice or beer, but sometimes it’s some weird mixture.  Cigarette butts are fairly common too.
